A

Accio AK-ee-oh

Causes an object to fly to the caster, even over quite some distance. The caster does have to know at least the general location of the object the caster wants to summon.

Aguamenti AH-gwa-MEN-tee

Charm that conjures a fountain or jet of clear water from the caster's wand.

Alerte Ascendare A-LEHRT-tey ah-SEN-deh-rey:

Shoots an object or creature to the air

Alohomora AL-o-ho-MOR-ah

Charm that causes locked doors to open.

Anapneo ah-NAHP-nay-oh

Spell that clears the target's airway, if blocked.

Aparecium a-par-EE-see-um

Makes invisible inkt become visible.

Apparition A-pa-RI-shun

Advanced spell used by fully trained wizards to disappear from one place and appear almost instantly somewhere else. The spell can be learned when a wizard or witch comes of age.

Aparecium ah-KWA-ear-UK-toe

Aqua Eructo is a spell used to create a jet of clear water, and then control it.

Arania Exumai ah-rahn-ee-a eks-su-may

Spider-killing Curse is a spell used to kill or, at least, blast back Acromantulas or other large spider species.

Aresto Momentum ah-REST-oh mo-MEN-tum

Used to slow down an object or being that is moving.

Ascendio Ah-SEN-DI-oh

Lifts the caster high into the air.

Avada Kedavra uh-VAH-duh kuh-DAH-vruh

Causes instant death in a flash of green light, usually leaving no sign of physical damage or of the cause of death that would be detectable to a Muggle autopsy.

Avifors Avy -fors

Turns inanimate objects into birds. When coupled with Oppugno, it can be used offensively.

Avis AH-vis

Conjures a little flock of small twittering birds.

Bombarda bom-bar-dah

Causes a small explosion.




C

Carpe Retractum car-pay ruh-track-tum

Produces a magical rope attached to the caster's wand that pulls objects towards the spell caster.

Cave Inimicum KAH-vay i-NI-mi-kum

Defensive spell to keep enemies away/Warns of any approaching enemies

Cheering Charm chee-e-ro

Causes the person upon whom the spell was cast to become happy and contented, though heavy-handedness with the spell may cause the person to break into an uncontrollable laughing fit.

Cistem Aperio SIS-tem uh-PE-ree-o

Opens a chest/trunk.

Colloportus co-lo-POR-tus

This spell will magically lock a door, preventing it from being opened by Muggle means.

Confringo con-FRIN-goh

Causes anything that the spell comes into contact with to explode into flames.

Confundo con-FUN-doh

Causes confusion. A person who is affected by this Charm is said to be Confunded.

Conjunctivitus Curse Rup-ti-SPECK-tis

A curse that causes great pain to the victim's eyes.

Crucio KROO-see-oh

One of the "Unforgivable Curses," this spell causes the victim to suffer almost intolerable pain. Some victims of prolonged use of this curse have been driven insane. A victim of this curse is said to have been Cruciated.



D

Defodio deh-FOH-dee-oh

This spell causes deep gouges to appear in the object targeted by the spell.

Deletrius deh-LEE-tree-us

Erases the ghost images of spells revealed by Priori Incantato. Possibly can be used to remove other spell effects as well.

Defodio deh-FO-dee-oh

Digs through or hollows out the target.

Densaugeo den-sah-OO-gi-oh:

Curse which causes the victim's teeth to enlarge grotesquely.

Depulso De-pul-soh

The Banishing Charm. Used to send the target to a certain location.

Deprimo De-PREE-moh

Blasts a hole through the target object.

Descendo deh-SEN-doe

Causes something to descend or lower itself.

Diffindo dih-FIN-doe

Spell that cuts something open.

Diminuendo dim-in-YEW-en-DOUGH

Forces objects to shrink

Duro DUR-oh

Turns the target object to stone.



E

Engorgio en-GOR-gee-oh

Spell which causes the target to swell in size.

Ennervate EN-er-vayt

Spell used to revive a person who has been hit by a Stunner.

Episkey eh-PIS-key

Used to heal relatively minor injuries.

Erecto er-EC-toe

Straightens out the target object and sets it up.

Evanesco ev-an-ES-ko

Makes something vanish (it dissapears completly)

Everte Statum ee-VER-tay STAH-tum

Has the same properties of the Hurling Hex. Hurls someone backwards.

Expecto Patronum ex-PEK-toh pa-TROH-num

Conjures a Patronus, a silvery phantom shape, usually that of an animal, which is the embodiment of the positive thoughts of the caster. A Patronus will drive away Dementors. The Expecto Patronum charm is an advanced charm.

Expelliarmus ex-pel-ee-AR-mus

Causes opponent's weapon to fly out of his or her hand.

Expulso ex-PUL-soh

A very powerful curse which causes a large explosion. Similar to the Blasting Curse, which also causes its target to explode, though the Blasting Curse seems to use heat (like a bomb) while Expulso seems to cause an explosion using pressure as opposed to heat.



F

Fera Verto Fair-uh-VAIR-toh

Turns animals to water goblets.

Ferula feh-ROO-lah

Creates a bandage and a splint.

Fidelius fih-DAY-lee-us

"An immensely complex spell involving the magical concealment of a secret inside a single, living soul. The information is hidden inside the chosen person, or Secret-Keeper, and is henceforth impossible to find -- unless, of course, the Secret-Keeper chooses to divulge it"

Fiendfyre Feend-fire

Fiendfyre is seemingly unstoppable cursed fire whose flames take the shape of fantastic creatures that appear to stalk those caught in its path. It can also destroy Horcruxes.

Finite fi-NEE-tay

Stops a currently operating spell effect.

Finite Incantatem fi-NEE-tay in-can-TAH-tum

Negates spells or the effects of spells. Only Finite can be used as well.

Flagrate flah-GRAH-tay

Creates a burning, fiery line in the air which can be "drawn" with the wand into specific shapes. The shape lingers for some time.

Flipendo FLIP-pen-do

Used to push/knock the target back

Furnunculus fur-NUN-kyoo-lus

Curse that causes painful boils to break out all over the victim.

Geminio jeh-MIN-ee-oh

Creates a duplicate of any object cast upon.

Glacius GLAY-shuss, gla-SI-us

A spell with great range, can freeze things to ice and can be melted by Incendio.

Glisseo glis-EH-oh

Causes the steps on a stairway to flatten and form a ramp, slide, or chute.

Harmonia Nectare Passus Harm-oh-nee-a Nek-te-reh Pass-us

Causes the object/person in a vanishing cabinet to pass in its twin/other vanishing cabinet.

Herbivicus HER-bee-vee-kus

Makes flowers and plants bloom in an instant, has some similar affects from Orchideous.

Homenum revelio HOM-eh-num reh-VEL-ee-oh

Reveals human presence in the target area.



I

Immobulus eem-o-bue-les

Renders target immobile.

Impedimenta im-ped-ih-MEN-tah

Stops an object or slows it down.

Imperio im-PAIR-ee-oh

One of the Unforgivable Curses, this spell causes the victim to be completely under the command of the caster, who can make the victim do anything the caster wishes. A victim of this spell is said to have been Imperiused.

Impervius im-PER-vee-us

This spell makes something repel (literally, become impervious to) substances and outside forces including water.

Inanimatus Conjurus in-an-i-MAH-tus con-JUR-us

Most likely used to conjure an inanimate object.

Incarcerous in-CAR-sir-us

Sends thick ropes out of thin air to wrap around someone or something.

Incendio in-SEN-dee-o

Starts a fire.

Inflatus in-FLAY-tus

Inflates objects (living or dead).

Lacarnum Inflamarae la-CAR-num in-fla-MA-ray

It sends a ball of fire from the wand

Langlock LANG-lok

A jinx that glues the target's tongue to the roof of his or her mouth.

Legilimens Le-JIL-ih-mens

Allows the caster to delve into the mind of the victim, allowing the caster to see the memories, thoughts, and emotions of the victim. Advanced spell.

Levicorpus leh-vi-COR-pus

Dangles the target person upside-down by the ankle in mid-air.

Liberacorpus lee-ber-ah-COR-pus

Counter-jinx to Levicorpus, it releases the target.

Locomotor ... lo-co-MO-tor

The spell is always used with the name of a target, at which the wand is pointed (e.g. "Locomotor Trunk!"). The spell causes the named object to rise in the air and move around at the will of the caster.

Locomotor Mortis lo-co-MO-tor MOR-tis

"Leg-Locker Curse", Locks together the legs of the victim, making him unable to walk.

Lumos LOO-mos

Causes a small beam of light to shine from the end of the caster's wand.

Lumos Solem LOO-mos SO-lem

Creates a powerful ray of light as bright as the sun.

Meteolojinx Recanto mee-tee-OH-lo-jinx ree-CAN-toh

Presumably causes weather effects caused by jinxes to cease.

Mobiliarbus MO-bi-lee-AR-bus

Levitates and moves an object.

Mobilicorpus MO-bi-lee-COR-pus

Moves a body.

Muffliato muf-lee-AH-to

Fills the ears of target persons near the caster with an unidentifiable buzzing, so that the caster can hold lengthy conversations without being overheard.



N

Nox noks

Turns off the light from a "Lumos" spell.



O

Obliviate oh-BLI-vee-ate

"Memory Charm", Modifies or erases portions of a person's memory.

Obscuro ob-SKOO-roh

Blocks someone's vision.

Oppugno oh-PUG-noh

Causes conjured creatures under the control of the caster to attack the target.

Orchideous or-KID-ee-us

Conjures a bouquet of flowers out of the end of a wand.



P

Pack

"pack!", A spell that causes items to assemble themselves into a trunk or any luggage.

Partis Temporus

Creates a temporary gap through protective magical barriers.

Periculum pur-ick-you-lum

Creates red sparks/flares to shoot from the users wand

Petrificus Totalus Pe-TRI-fi-cus to-TAH-lus

Used to temporarily bind the victim's body in a position much like that of a soldier at attention; the victim will usually fall to the ground.

Piertotum Locomotor pee-air-TOH-tum lo-co-MO-tor

A variation of the Locomotor spell, used to animate statues and armour.

Point Me

"Four-Point Spell", A simple spell, performed with the wand laying flat on the open palm of the caster. When the words are spoken, the wand rotates to point north.

Portus POR-tus

Turns the target object into a Portkey.

Prior Incantato prye-OR in-can-TAH-toe

Causes the echo (a shadow or image) of the last spell cast by a wand to emanate from it.

The nature of the "echo" depends on the original spell. The echo of a conjuring spell, for example, is the object conjured; the echo of the Cruciatus Curse is the screaming of the victim; the echo of an Avada Kedavra curse is the image of its victim. Apparently the spell is cumulative, with the user able to go further back and see spells that the wand performed after the latest spell.

Protego pro-TAY-go

"Shield Charm", This spell creates a magical barrier that will deflect hexes thrown at the caster.

Protego horribilis pro-TAY-go ho-RIB-i-lis

A powerful shield charm against dark magic.

Protego totalum pro-TAY-go TOH-tah-lum

Casts a sheild charm over a small area that will not let anything pass through.



Q

Quietus KWY-uh-tus

Reverses the effect of the Sonorus spell, making the caster's voice normal in volume.



R

Reducio re-DOO-see-oh

Makes an enlarged object smaller. Counter-charm to Engorgio.

Reducto re-DUC-toh

Blasts object out of the casters path. If used strongly it can destroy or disintigrate the object.

Relashio re-LASH-io

A spell used to make the subject release what ever it is holding or binding.

Rennervate REN-er-vayt

Brings someone out of unconsciousness or hit by a stunning spell.

Reparo re-PAR-oh

Used to repair objects.

Repello re-PEL-oh

Spell that keeps something away from the caster or from a target object that the spell is cast upon.

Repello Muggletum reh-PELL-loh MUG-ul-tum, MUGG-gleh-tum, mugg-GLEE-tum

Keeps Muggles away from wizarding places by causing them to remember important meetings they missed and to cause the Muggles in question to forget what they were doing.

Rictusempra ric-tuhm-SEM-pra

Causes an extreme tickling sensation that, could cause a person to laugh uncontrollably.

Riddikulus ri-di-KYOO-lus

"Boggart banishing spell", A simple charm requiring force of mind, this spell requires the caster to visualize his or her worst fear in an amusing form while reciting the incantation. When performed correctly, this forces the boggart to take on an appearance which will inspire the laughter that forms an effective defense against the creature.



S

Salvio hexia SAL-vee-oh HEX-ee-ah

"salvia" L. without breaking + "hexia" hexes

Effect unknown, but the wording seems to suggest that this affects the various other spells being casts.

Scourgify SKUR-ji-fy

Used to clean something.

Sectumsempra sek-tum-SEM-pra:

A dark spell that creates large, blood-oozing gashes on the subject as if said subject had been "slashed by a sword".

Serpensortia ser-pen-SOR-sha

Causes a large serpent to burst from the end of the caster's wand.

Silencio si-LEN-see-oh

Magically silences the target of the spell.:

Sonorus so-NO-rus)

Makes the caster's voice carry over long distances. Or you could say better, makes the caster voice really loud!

Specialis Revelio spe-see-AH-lis reh-VEL-ee-oh

Used to identify the ingredients of the target potion.

Spongify s-pon-gee-fy

Creates an invisible cushioned area. Used primarily in broomstick manufacturing, to provide more comfort to the rider.

Stupefy STOO-puh-fye

Stuns victim. If used too forcefully, it will put the victim in an unconscious state.



T

Tarantallegra TAIR-an-tuh-LEG-ruh

Makes victim's legs dance uncontrollably

Tergeo tair-GAY-oh

A spell used to siphon matter from a surface, eg. blood, ink, dust, etc.



U


V

Ventus ven-TUS

A strong blast of wind is shot from the end of the wand, used to push objects out of the way.

Verdimillious VERD-dee-mil-lee-us

A spell that shoots green sparks at the end of the wand.

Vipera Evanesca VIYP-er-uh ehv-uhn-EHS-kuh

Counter Spell for Serpensortia. Seems not to merely "Vanish", but causes the snake to smolder from head and tail until it is reduced to a pile of ashes.

Vulnera Sannelto

Spell used to heal deep gashes. Its incantation is described as being song-like.

Waddiwasi wah-di-WAH-see

Appears to launch small objects through the air.

Wingardium Leviosa win-GAR-dee-um lev-ee-OH-sa

Causes an object to levitate
